One Generation

Australia is facing a national crisis of violence against women. Right now, one in four women in Australia will experience domestic violence. 

We understand many businesses want to help, but just don’t know where to start. One Generation will provide a roadmap for businesses to move beyond discussions and commitments to taking action and delivering much needed change for our customers. We will do the groundwork to help identify what works (and what doesn’t) and where we, together, can have the greatest impact for those that need our help and support most. 

One Generation

The One Generation business initiative is a program of Thriving Communities Australia, co-founded with social enterprise Flequity Ventures and presents a unique opportunity for businesses to take a leading role in tackling domestic and family violence.

Launched in November 2024, One Generation is a cross-sector alliance of Australia’s leading essential service organisations with an ambitious goal to ignite business solutions at scale for customers experiencing domestic and family violence.

The One Generation program has three priorities:

  • Provide better and safer support for victim-survivors
  • Foster a culture of respect
  • Identify and share evidence of what works 

We believe the business community has a critical role to play in supporting Australia to achieve its ambition of ending gendered violence in a one generation.  

One Generation members have committed to a charter. Their investment will enable TCA to deliver lived experience research and a suite of free and publicly available resources to help every Australian essential service organisations provide better practice, and safer customer outcomes.

  • Pooled investment, collaborative action and information sharing to undertake lived experience research, identify better practice and foster cross-sector innovation and address collective challenges.
  • Improved customer outcomes by delivering tangible impacts through better practice support for customers
  • Enhancing better practice and improving consistency of support via access to lived experience research, better resources, tools and guidelines and information sharing
  • Building networks through partnerships and connections
  • Measuring impact via reporting on the One Generation business initiative 
  • Evidence-based advocacy by leveraging One Generation’s collective voice

  • Improved customer support, with earlier opportunities for intervention and reducing trauma for those seeking support, in what is often a convoluted, time consuming and de-humanising process
  • Safer products and services, reducing the risk of misuse to perpetrate domestic violence or financial abuse and increasing the rate of detecting instances of misuse
  • Safer and simpler pathways for self-advocacy, where customers can solve the problems and challenges they are facing faster, reducing anxiety and stress
  • Raised public awareness of the various forms of domestic violence and financial abuse
  • Increased awareness and easily accessible/ support for customers impacted by domestic and family violence

With a collaborative approach focused on delivering cross sector innovation and collective action, the potential impact for customers experiencing, or at risk of, domestic violence and financial abuse is immense

One Generation brings together essential service organisations from a range of sectors and is seeking to continue to expand its partners across water, energy, telecommunications,  banking, insurance, superannuation, retail, transport, technology and property. All essential services are instrumental to keeping women and children safe and supporting their recovery.
